Millpond Lore

What is Millpond?

Millpond is a fictional town, built as the foundation for a shared horror universe. It was created as a character in itself, providing writers with a backdrop for their short horror stories. These stories can take place anytime between 1650 and the present day. Every tale, no matter the era, is bound by this one place: Millpond. It’s streets, woods, diners, cafés, churches, and back roads have seen centuries of sightings, monsters, and moments left unexplained.

Inspired by the slow-dread of Stephen King, the small-town unease of shows like Stranger Things, and the grainy menace of old VHS horror tapes, Millpond feels familiar - like a place you’ve seen before but can’t quite place it in your mind. A town that exists somewhere between your memories, and your nightmares.

Millpond isn’t about one storyline or one monster. It’s about atmosphere, character and the idea that horror can happen anywhere… especially in a place that feels so comfortable and inviting - where if you look beyond the white picket fences, you may witness ominous secrets behind it.

The website you are visiting right now is an expansion of the Millpond universe, lending it’s hand to deeper insights into its lore, including other stories, local headlines, maps, locations and places to visit should you imagine yourself actually there in person.

The book, however, was created to prove that Millpond could support many voices, writing styles and a collection of diverse horror stories, that are all united by this one place, rather than just one plot. It’s a late night collection, best read when the house is quiet and the shadows feel a little too long in places.

The book is available to purchase, through Kindle, for only 99p.
